Hotel Boutique Casa Kalfu

The front desk staff were very helpful, and I can live with an old building and squeaky floors, but the room needs much better upkeep. Everything looked worn, including a bath towel with a hole. The toilet was awkwardly placed, with your legs going under the sink, which sits at chin height when you're seated. There was an open bottle of conditioner in the shower, so I wondered whether anyone had checked it. Housekeeping took away the shower mat and one towel of each kind without replacing them, then left the balcony door wide open and the room freezing. Thankfully there were no flies or mosquitoes, but birds had left marks on the glass. I hope management takes this report as constructive feedback about what needs attention.

They really did their best for everyone, and the service was great. The place feels a little retro and could use an injection of cash.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to US visitors to Puerto Varas. Trip Advisor categorizes it as a boutique hotel, but it doesn't meet that standard. Management seems to have let the place go. My room was just a bed with no chair, stool, or table, and I had to leave notes for the owner on the window sills. They use rattan trays as bedside tables, full of holes that trap dust and can't really be cleaned. Room #9 had a serious leak, with drywall and plaster scattered across the floor. There was mold on the wall and the floor was dirty, yet housekeeping apparently hadn't reported it. I had to bring it up myself. The hotel was fully booked, and after just one night there I had a headache. Everything looked old, and after seeing how dirty my room was, I didn't want to sit on the living-room couches either. Getting to the lobby means climbing a very steep cement staircase with no ramp for luggage. Its wooden railing is falling apart, with rusty nails exposed. Anyone considering a stay should expect a price far below what other 'boutique' hotels charge for this dump.
