The owner was incredibly rude when I asked for a few extra minutes at checkout because we hadn’t known the time was 10:30. That’s earlier than what you usually find at hotels or hostels. The neighborhood also felt very sketchy, especially walking back at night.

Arturo made sure we were comfortable and taken care of throughout our stay. We’d booked just one night at the start of a road trip, but were so pleased we came back for another. When we were going to miss breakfast, he even packed us a morning snack. The rooms were comfortable and warm, with a hot shower. We adored our time at the hostel in Punta Arenas and can’t recommend it highly enough. Thanks again, Arturo!

The room was clean, though the walls were thin, and the guesthouse has some shared areas with the hosts. It sits on a hill, so getting up from the city center is quite a climb. What really spoiled things was finding all the groceries we’d put in the fridge for the next day had disappeared by morning. Maybe another guest took them, but we lost breakfast and a big part of our money, and it threw off our day.

Breakfast was great, and Arturo was very nice and helpful with everything. Hostal Fernando de Magalhães is a pleasant little hotel on The cierro Santa Cruz, about 600 m from the city center. I recommend it in Punta Arenas!
