The staff were kind and helpful, especially Grace, and most could speak English. The location is peaceful but still within walking distance of everything in San Pedro. Breakfast had freshly made eggs, though the rest was much like what we’d had at other hotels. There’s no free drinking water, and Wi-Fi was so weak across the property that we had to use our data hotspot for work. The grounds and cabanas at Hotel Tulor are beautifully landscaped, but the place feels quite old. The seat cushions and loungers were very dirty and stained, as were the pool and room towels. In our room, the shower window was completely broken and wouldn’t open or close; another bathroom window had a hole in the glass, and there was mold all over the shower.

The pool is the best when it’s so hot. I love this hotel, just one block from San Pedro’s main street, and the rounded houses make it feel like being in Tulor, the 2,300-year-old village.

We had such a great three-night stay at Tulor with our kids, aged 3 and 6. It’s quiet and conveniently about a five-minute walk from the center, restaurants and cafés. The rooms are simple, cozy and comfortable, but the staff were the best part, always kind, ready to help and great with kids. Antai restaurant at the hotel also serves some really good local food.

I’m furious about the service here. I was traveling alone with my two young children in San Pedro, Atacama, and chose this hotel because it had three stars. I regret not reading the lower-rated reviews first. We arrived in the early hours, exhausted after a turbulent flight with the kids, and no one picked us up at the airport. Check-in took 45 minutes. The employees were slow and unfriendly, and seemed unhappy to be there. It was around 2 a.m. and my infant was screaming, which I understand was difficult, but they made their irritation clear. When I asked for someone who spoke English because my Spanish is limited, one employee said, “Your speaking fine right now.” I explained in broken Spanish that I could speak but struggled to understand the different dialect. Eventually someone who spoke English helped. Then she kept questioning how many people would stay. My husband was arriving on a separate flight the next day, and she asked whether he was coming alone. I explained that there would be four of us and that I understood the room limit. The room was filthy. There was black mold in the shower corners, a rusty sink faucet, nearly brown water, stained sheets and no extra bedding. I went to sleep and called reception in the morning to ask for a cleaning crew. They said the crew would come when my room was on their route. I waited, then left for about an hour and a half. The room was no better when I got back. Reception said cleaning had happened, so I asked for management, but they said no one was available and would pass on the request. I never got a call back and had to ask reception for extra bedding myself. That night, they initially refused to let my husband in because the room had “already been checked into.” He had to call me downstairs, and after half an hour of arguing they finally got the employee who checked me in to confirm the situation. I was fed up by then, and still had to wait for cleaning to come so I could show them what needed doing. With four days left on our reservation, I got a call saying I needed to return to America as soon as possible. I told the hotel, but they tried to charge us a cancellation fee and wouldn’t refund the last four days we couldn’t use. I’m so upset with this hotel. Please read all the reviews before booking.

Our daughter became extremely sick, so as a family from Canada we asked the hotel to cancel our booking. They wanted a doctor’s note. We sent one, but they didn’t accept it and accused us of lying. We took our daughter to another doctor, and they still refused to refund anything. They wouldn’t speak with us directly, hung up on us several times, and only Booking.com could get in touch with them. Even when Booking.com asked them to make an exception, they refused, kept the reservation and charged the full amount to our card. The airline refunded our non-refundable tickets to San Pedro, but the hotel kept $1,700. Our vacation was ruined, and I’ve never had such awful customer service. Our daughter was very sick and they didn’t care that we couldn’t travel. I’ve also read reviews saying guests had things stolen from their rooms. Please don’t stay there.
