Carménère eco Hotel

It's a quiet, clean hotel, and the staff were very accommodating. We arrived really early and they let us spend some time in the courtyard; on our early departure day, they still made us breakfast. We enjoyed exploring the neighborhood, and walking from there to other Santiago sights felt doable and safe. We'd stay again.

We felt completely pampered here. The garden was soothing, the rooms were very quiet, and we loved the amenities and thoughtful touches, especially the breakfast pancakes. The staff were friendly, generous, and efficient, and the beds were the best we had on our long trip.

The Italia neighborhood was easy to explore on foot, and I felt safe walking to the nearby shops and restaurants. We had such a good time here that I tried to change our plans and add a night for the return trip. Starting our Chile journey with the welcome Carmere wine and a visit to the wine cellar was a fun touch.

The breakfast was fresh and had a good spread, but the rooms were old and small, with very creaky floors and little sound insulation between them. We came back after the water was restored because Carmenere's staff wouldn't offer any financial compensation for the nights we had paid for, including the extra night booked before we arrived. The nearby hotel we moved to during the outage was around the same price, had running water, friendly staff, and a much nicer room. It was great. We arrived on Friday for a four-night stay and found out that water to this part of town would be cut off until Sunday morning. I don't blame the hotel for the outage itself. The problem was how the on-site manager dealt with us. There were 16 of us, all staying at this hotel, and our plans were already fixed. Still, he repeatedly insisted we should go on excursions during the days without water, even after we explained we couldn't change our plans. Running water is a basic expectation when booking a hotel. He also said the outage had caught them by surprise. Staff at other hotels told us the town had known about it well before we arrived. Then he kept saying it wasn't that bad and offering bottles of water so we could clean ourselves. No compensation or other solution was offered. I really wanted to like this place, but the way we were treated was shocking and disappointing. The customer service was horrendous, and I wouldn't recommend staying here.
