Casa Violeta Limon

I stayed here two years ago and had a better experience then, but it seems to depend on which room you get. Some rooms in the middle are away from the noise. Mine was filthy, and the place is right by a road and plaza, with people yelling and cars making noise all night. The other hostel residents were also shouting and blasting the TV. In Valpo, hostels at this price are usually cleaner and nicer, without the car noise. Don't waste your time here.

The rooms were comfortable, and the hostel has a lot going for it: nice infrastructure, plenty of space, and a well-equipped kitchen. But the staff were cold and unfriendly with us, never even smiling. We were glad to see the posted rule saying visitors could use the common areas as long as they left before 22:45, since friends of ours were volunteering in Valparaiso. We invited them to cook with us while we were the only guests there, and checked with reception first. They immediately said no without explaining why, despite the written rule, and looked down on us because we couldn't speak Spanish perfectly. We'd already bought groceries, so our friends had to return to where they were staying. We left the next day. The place has potential, but the staff were unpleasant and didn't follow their own rules.

It's close to bellavista and the funicular up the hill, where there's a great view. The hostel itself was really nice, with comfy beds, an excellent kitchen, and lovely staff. One of the three nights, people staying in rooms near the alley hung out there drinking and playing music, so it got noisy. Earphones might help.

The room was great and the location nice, though it was very loud.
