Hostal Dinamarca

There are a lot of stairs, and the hostel is up a steep hill. The walk from downtown isn’t long, but climbing back is strenuous, so it could be tough if you’re not fit. The Wi-Fi worked, though it could be better; cellular data was fine. We appreciated having kitchen access to warm up leftovers from our restaurant dinner for lunch. Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was good, and the location made it easy to reach a nice part of the city. There’s a bus stop right across the street, and we took a bus downtown and all the way to Vina del Mar without changing.

The location is good, and there’s a good parking spot. It was clean, and the furniture is a little old but still fine. Just be aware that the owner will charge taxes to foreigners, and you might see him walking around in his underwear in the morning.

Our room was quite large and clean, and the bathroom was fine. The kitchen was very well equipped, though in our three days nobody explained where our room or the laundry room was, or shared information about Valparaiso. There was no English-speaking employee at the hostel during our stay. All in all, it was a perfectly fine hostal for tourists.

Guests end up becoming friends at this family-run place. The owner is jovial, and it’s a great place to stay.
