Hostal Polanco - Hostel

We paid under $10 a night and felt very welcome. For Valparaiso, this is the best budget option, and the location is excellent. Thank you!

The room was tiny, the adobe walls were cracked, and the door wouldn’t lock from the inside. There was no hot water. Aside from that, everything was fine.

There was hardly ever hot water, which was a problem. The service was very good and prices were affordable, and the area is nice with most hostels close by.

We ended up here during the Los Mil Tambores festival weekend because everything else was booked, so it was our only option. The shared bathroom was dirty and its trash can was overflowing. The kitchen was filthy, with dishes piled in the sink, including the staff’s. Hot water in the shower came and went, and sometimes it was scalding. Staff spent their time on YouTube and Facebook instead of cleaning the common areas. The bedding was mediocre, and the pillows seemed to be stuffed animals or sofa cushions. We also had 130,000 Chilean pesos (€175) stolen from a locker behind the receptionist’s desk. We believe the evening receptionist unscrewed the wooden bottom of the locker to get at our wallets. The manager knew about the problem but didn’t meet with us or call in staff to resolve it. Avoid this place.
