Regal Airport Hotel

We slept really well before our next flight. During a long layover, we booked a room for a few hours hoping to get three or four hours in a proper bed. It was spacious, with a coffee machine and capsules, plus bottled water. The window looked over the runway, but the soundproofing was so good that the planes didn’t disturb us. There was also a little garden terrace and a pool in the courtyard below.

The room had plenty of space, even with three large suitcases spread out, and the airport location was extremely convenient. Still, the dated building showed its age: hallway carpet made luggage hard to roll, and the shower and sink drained very slowly. Bottled water wasn’t supplied in the room, though filtered room-temperature taps in the corridors were handy once we found them. The outdoor pool was closed in December, which was a shame on such pleasant weather. Our late check-in was disappointing. The receptionist was rude and unhelpful, and we had to show all our booking documents to establish the later checkout included in the “Gift of Time Package.” It was advertised as a 24-hour stay because our flight was at noon the next day, but the package actually ran only until 6pm. At first we were told checkout was 10am. Since we booked directly with the hotel, that information should have been attached to the reservation. The stay was acceptable, but I wouldn’t be in a hurry to return given the service and aging facilities.

July from the ground staff was a big help with arranging luggage storage, and her friendly manner made things much smoother. We left our bags there rather than take them all to Japan. The first day of storage is free, then it costs HKD 20 per day, which is very reasonable compared with airport storage. We were three adults in a family room with three beds, staying for two separate nights during our transit. There was ample room to lay out our luggage while packing. The hotel connects directly to the airport, so there’s no shuttle to catch. It’s around a 15-20 minute walk from the main terminal, a little longer with several big suitcases. The building is somewhat old, but clean, comfortable, practical, and has what you need for a transit stay.

For an overnight stop or a day or two in transit, this works really well. You can check in at the airport terminals and avoid hauling luggage into the city. It’s modern, clean, quiet, and the front desk staff are friendly. They can extend checkout if your flight is later in the day. Buses and the MTR connect from the airport to mainland Hong Kong, Victoria Harbour, interchanges, and other places. If you’re staying in Hong Kong for three or four days or a week, I’d look at hotels in the core city instead. For transit passengers, though, this is an easy recommendation.
