Synloc Tower

The room felt dated and kept smelling of mold. Worse, in the six hours we were there, two separate guests used their keycards to open our door because reception had apparently assigned them our room by mistake. When we reported it, reception blamed another colleague and said they couldn't do anything. Their suggestions were that we check out or wedge a chair against the door. I wouldn't recommend staying here to anyone. It felt incredibly unsafe.

We stayed here back in the 90s, when it was still called Shamrock Hotel. They also did good Yum Cha.

The staff were attentive, kind, and helpful under Mr. Wang's management. I'd definitely come back.

There are better options for a long stay, even with this place's convenient location. The rooms are old and dim, and late at night you often hear other guests banging doors open. It's really disruptive, and after you complain the quiet only lasts a few days. I gave it a star for the location and staff, but the stay had a lot of problems. The air conditioning stays at the same temperature whatever the weather, so you can't make the room comfortable. It runs so cold that humidity inside is very low: the room was at 44% even when it was 84% outside. Although the rooms are said to be non-smoking, smoke often seems to linger from the air conditioner. Hot water was either scalding or unavailable after the first few days. Staff repaired it when I asked, but it broke again several days later. There are more than 10 rooms on each floor but only six washers and six dryers, so a long-term guest may have to wait until late at night to do laundry.
