Wontonmeen - Hostel

We cooked vegetables and reheated leftovers a few times in the communal kitchen, keeping the food in the shared fridge. Nearby self-service laundromats were handy, and we could dry clothes on the shared rooftop. Our corridor also had a filtered water dispenser, hot water kettle and vintage luggage scale. For a longer stay, Wontonmeen was really practical. I stayed in the building as a monthly tenant for a year in the 2010s, so I was curious to see what Patricia had changed. My boyfriend and I spent nine days in mid-to-late January 2026 in the "cassette tape" superior double room. Small as it was, it felt comfortable for two. The handmade details and design were impressive. Since it was at the back of the building, street noise was limited, except for the occasional siren or motorcycle. It's about an 8-min walk from Prince Edward MTR, and not as central as some parts of Hong Kong. But the area felt less crowded and quieter, which made the visit more peaceful and less stressful, and gave us more of a local Hong Kong experience. The neighborhood was fun to explore, with light industry shops repairing cars and selling sewing machines, sewing notions and leather. We also liked walking around Sham Shui Po's lively local market streets. We went to Heartwarming several times for black sesame desserts, especially the lava pudding and soft serve, and to Ten Noodle Shop for the lightest, bounciest fish balls I've ever had. Wontonmeen is an incredible deal. Patricia could charge more, but I think she runs the place from the heart, not just for profit.
