Hostel VIM

Mrs Mary was a wonderful host and helped me with so much. She really wants you to enjoy cartegena and looks after you with unmatched hospitality. Her place is in a local neighborhood, away from the tourist traps, so you get an authentic colombian neighborhood experience. She's also an amazing cook, so try one of her meals while you're there. Don't stay in the old city with its inflated prices and fakeness, go to Mrs Mary instead. You're the best, Mrs Mary!

I loved my six months living at the house during an exchange program in Cartagena. Mary and her family were kind, attentive, and respectful. They made sure I was comfortable, supported me when I needed it, and invited me along to many wonderful experiences. I felt so loved and cared for. They taught me a lot about culture, food, Costeñol, and kindness, and I know our connection will last for life. The house is in a neighborhood I really liked. It's gated, with a guard at the entrance who notes who comes and goes, and I always felt safe. Around the square are a sports court, playground, little church, and a tent selling fritos in the morning and hot dogs, picadas, and little pizzas at night. The area is calm and quiet, with a pleasant feel in the afternoons and evenings as kids play sports and families eat comida rápida in the park. There's a corner store just a few steps diagonally from the house, and a few other stores like D1 and Ara are a 5 to 10 minute walk away. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and feel like home. The house stays pretty cool most of the time, with air conditioning for when it gets warm. Mary cooks and sells wonderful traditional Costeño food, better than what you'll find in many restaurants. She also sells pasadias, day passes to the islands and other excursions around Cartagena. She arranged a trip to El Volcán del Totumo for my friend and me, and it was really wonderful. I loved my time at VIM.

It was comfortable and easy, with a welcoming family feel. I felt right at home.

The service was excellent and attentive. The room was nice, with air conditioning, a great TV, and good Wi-Fi. I recommend it and will come back.
