The building itself is beautiful and well cared for, and the pool area is peaceful and pleasant. The rooftop terrace, with its daybeds and jacuzzi, also has a lot of charm. Unfortunately, that was about the extent of the pleasure of staying here. We booked a week nine months ahead, but 3-4 weeks before arrival they cancelled our reservation, saying there’d been a “booking software issue.” Our room was given to someone else. It felt like they’d sold it at the last minute for more money. Since we passed through Cartagena twice, we booked our last night here instead. We arrived before check-in and they wouldn’t let us have the room until check-in began. The staff had a collectively negative attitude toward guests. I’d booked room 5 but was given room 8. The shower leaks, and there’s mold growing on the wall (see photo). There’s just one outlet in the bathroom, and it can’t be used (see photo). The room had none of the basic things I expected, such as a hair dryer, coat hangers, closet, or iron, and there weren’t even hooks for towels. The doorbell is in the courtyard, so when someone rings it at 5:30 AM, everyone wakes up. The front door is often locked, and sometimes you have to ring more than twice before anyone lets you in. Breakfast was decent, though we saw the server microwave leftover coffee for us. The staff really made the stay less than pleasant.

The hotel’s photos were misleading, looking staged and out of date. Our room was rundown and had little of the charm the pictures suggested. The staff didn’t smile or greet guests, and we could hear them dragging their feet around. We booked and got confirmation in May 2025 for February 2026. Three weeks before arrival, the hotel told us it was fully booked and cancelled the reservation. It was extremely disappointing. I suspect they didn’t honor it because we’d locked in a low rate by booking so far ahead. We eventually managed to book one night for our last night there, and after staying, we were glad we hadn’t spent the intended full week there. The layout carries every sound across the courtyard, including the doorbell whenever the main door closes. Guests have to ring it to get in late at night or early in the morning, since they don’t provide a key for the main door. It was very annoying. The advertised jacuzzies weren’t working during our stay. The pool is supposed to close at 6 p.m., which is frustrating in Cartagena’s heat when an evening swim would be ideal. Breakfast was okay, but they wouldn’t make lattes or cappuccinos, claiming they couldn’t use the café’s coffee machine even though it was right there. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

The roof was a wonderful place to hang out, and the location was great, tucked into a quiet offshoot within easy reach of the main action. Our room was huge and really comfortable, and the receptionist gave us an incredibly warm welcome. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. I only wish the pool and jacuzzi stayed open later and the café espresso machine was available at breakfast. Small things overall. Wish we’d stayed more nights!

The service was slow and the property felt neglected and run down. There was no water for hours, and the floors and curtains were dirty. Towels were old, toiletries were missing, and there was no closet or iron. The curtains also let light in from the lobby. I noticed black mold in the shower, and the photos were doctored and misleading.

The waffles and potato omelette were delicious, and the place is well located. I loved the jacuzzi and the lovely rooftop. I’d come back!
