We’d heard about this place and decided to try it, but the stay just wasn’t good. The staff were friendly enough, but the hostel was really run down. Our suite bathroom was so dirty the water wouldn’t drain, and I had to clean it before showering. The bed was uncomfortable, and breakfast was like airplane food. There’s no guest kitchen and they don’t sell food, so you have to order delivery. There’s just one common room, full of dogs and cats that smelled terrible. We paid for laundry after being told it would be dry in two days, but when we checked, the clothes were damp and smelled bad. We left for a different hostel by the beach at the same price and had a great stay. Given how many good options there are in the area, I wouldn’t recommend this one.

After Palomina, we really wanted somewhere to unwind, and this was perfect for chilling out in a beautiful spot. The hostel people were super friendly and helpful. And as a bonus, there were so many sweet cats and dogs rescued from the street :)

The conversations with Mama Tayrona were the highlight for me. She had so much wisdom about the area and the country to share, and the boys gave us all the park information we needed. We finished our trip in April at Mama Tayrona, and couldn’t have picked a better last stop. It feels like being in the jungle without having to hike first, with a gorgeous pool and lovely nature all around, especially if you love cats. The cocktails and food were top tier too. Go down to the garden centre for lunch, the hummingbirds are gorgeous. Thanks to everyone at Mama Tayrona, and kisses to the cats.

We stayed three nights and loved it. The hostel and grounds are beautiful, and it’s family run. It makes a perfect base for a night in Tayrona National Park: the better park entrance is a 10 minute walk away, and a bus can drop you right at the hostel entrance on the way back. There were 8 cats and 3 dogs rescued by the hostel, and they were a highlight for us. The food was good, breakfast is included, and I’d absolutely recommend Mama Tayrona hostel.

The hostel is near the smaller park entrance, and the host was amazing with advice for the Tayrona trek. It’s like a little paradise, with a great pool, too. Being able to leave our backpacks there for the day was really convenient. Highly recommend!
