Hotel Guatatur

Good price and location, but the furniture is old and pretty untidy, and there are cockroaches. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The place has a great view and sits right in the centre, though Guatape is tiny and most places are close anyway. The stay itself was really disappointing. Our room was in poor condition, the jacuzzi bath didn't work, hot water was an issue, and there wasn't enough bedding. It was ridiculously noisy, and breakfast was terrible. The airport shuttle is also a separate service, not run by the hotel. I've stayed in better hostels.

I had two rooms, and both bathrooms had hair on the toilet and around the room. I'm very particular about cleanliness, and it was a huge ick. The second room smelled musty too. Noise was another problem: you could hear everything inside and outside, plus cooking smells and loud restaurant music reached the third floor. There are cheaper places in Guatape that are better. The hotel doesn't give refunds, which felt scammy to me, especially in busy periods when the town is full. I saw several unhappy guests leave, and it seemed their rooms could be handed straight to new guests while the hotel kept the nonrefundable money. Staff were dismissive when I complained, saying I'd paid 120k per night, though locals consider that a lot.

The rooms were nice, the bed was comfortable, and the bathrooms were well kept. Staff were outstanding, though you need to ask questions to find out what's available. We only learned about the spa area because we asked. TV reception was one small issue. Depending on your room, you may also hear music from the local bars.
