Hotel Acqua Medellín

The rooms were roomy and clean, with A/C, and breakfast was basic but decent. The woman serving it was lovely, and the location is good. Sleep was another story: noise from construction across the street started early, traffic was loud, and the thin walls let us hear crying babies and other guests. On our last night, the neighbors partied, smoked, and kept going in and out. Even after we and hotel staff asked them to stop, we were still awake at 1:30. Things only settled after staff threatened to call the police and have them removed. Ask for a room at the back, and I wouldn't choose this place for a family with kids. There are nicer options nearby.

The room had blackout blinds, a safe, a comfortable bed, and a strong hot shower. I was really happy with my choice. The front desk staff were friendly, breakfast was good, and the room snacks were reasonably priced. The place was clean, and I liked the energy-saving controls for the lights and power. It's in a great location, with a nice view from the front. I suspect the view from the back may be even better.

I couldn't sleep comfortably because the bed creaked whenever I shifted around. Noise from the nearby clubs and the maids came through, and the window in my room wouldn't open. The shower was either freezing or extremely hot, with no way to adjust it. The shower door stuck and wouldn't shut properly, and the bathroom handle was partly broken. I absolutely don't recommend this place.

Rain on the terrace roof was unbelievably loud, and noise from the stairwell echoed into the room. Music from nearby clubs came through too. The internet was poor and breakfast was mediocre. Hot water was very inconsistent, and I could hear the motor running. They did arrange a refund after the first night, though they took a 15% penalty and paid it in cash only.
