Medellín Vibes

Avoid this place. It was the worst hostel stay I’ve ever had. The staff were extremely rude, dismissive, and unhelpful. I’ve traveled a lot, including around Colombia, and haven’t run into that kind of attitude before. If they don’t want to be hospitable, why work in hospitality?

I’ve already booked somewhere else, and there are no refunds. This is my honest review: I’m not rich, but I’m not homeless either, and I wouldn’t stay here in America. It reminds me of an econolodge or studio8. The establishment is old, the rooms smell stale, and it turns out that smell is mold. The mattress is like a brick, with cracked paint and walls, loose vanities, uneven floors, and stains on the walls. I slept on top of the sheets with a jacket over me. This is my 3rd city visiting.

Gaby at reception was very nice, and I really enjoyed my stay. I was in a six-person all-women dorm, with a bathroom in the room for all six of us. They cleaned the room and bathroom every day, gave us a free towel and breakfast with eggs, fruit, bread, juice or coffee, and provided a card for the room. We had our own lockers and could buy a lock. The pool was nice, and the kitchen was good. I didn’t go into the basement, but I saw people watching a movie there one night. The shower leaked onto the bathroom floor, though it wasn’t a big deal. Climbing up to the top bunk was a little difficult, so I’d suggest a bottom bunk. I don’t remember any activities while I was there, but I’m not sure. I wanted to do laundry on Sunday, but the machines weren’t working that day, and neither was the kitchen sink. Popular restaurants and other places are a bit of a walk away, but I like taking Moto taxis. I had a really good experience overall.

The bathroom was spacious, and the shower was nice. The room was clean, with comfortable beds, and the staff were lovely, especially Danny and the woman at the front desk whose name I didn't catch. Breakfast was decent, with eggs and a choice of fillings. The nearest metro is about a 10-minute walk away.
