Sugar Cane Hostel

The free breakfast and fresh bananas upstairs were a nice bonus, and the showers had hot water. The beds were good enough. It’s a small hostel, which made it easier to meet people on the rooftop, though it’s definitely not a party place. The owner, Gunther, was great, especially for me as a non-Spanish speaker. He speaks fluent English and booked us on several excellent tours. I wish the rooftop stayed open until 12 instead of 11. With the earlier closing, having fun can be hard unless you head to the bars. Still, I had a great stay and can’t wait to come back.

The rooms were nice, but they got extremely hot, and a fan wasn’t enough. They really need air conditioning. The terrace is a relaxing spot, and the location is great for walking around the centre; there’s a supermarket only a few minutes away. The couple who run the hostel were lovely. I’d stay again if they added air conditioning.

The kitchen is well equipped, and there’s a nice roof terrace. Staff were nice too, and the WiFi worked well in the common areas. But the rooms had poor WiFi. My six bed room had no window or air conditioning and felt like a sweat box. There wasn’t hot water, even in the showers. It’s a nice hostel with lovely staff, but I wouldn’t pay 60k COP/night again for boiling rooms and cold showers.

The owners and receptionist are such caring, friendly people. The staff went out of their way to help me sort out some problems with my motorcycle, and I can’t say enough good things about them. One of my favourite hostels I’ve stayed at. Thanks again, I won’t forget your help.
