Finca Cafetera San Rafael

We only came for the tour, not an overnight stay. For 30.000 COP, you get the coffee/cacao tour, coffee and hot chocolate at the end, and use of the pool. The pool looks out over the mountains and is really picturesque. There’s also a great viewpoint you can hike to from here.

It’s a pretty basic, run-down place, though it’s also a working farm. The food is simple too, but quite nice. Cal led our coffee tour and knew his stuff, which made the experience really special for us. I’d highly recommend taking the tour with him.

Updated after the owner's reply: The way he responds shows a disregard for both visitors and employees, with no accountability or real effort to improve. We really enjoyed the tour at Finca La Victoria instead. It’s easy to reach by regular car. We couldn't take the coffee tour here because we couldn't get to the location. We were told an SUV could make it, but the last 200 meters actually need a proper 4x4. Otherwise, you have to hire transport or walk. My wife went on foot to tell them we couldn't make it, and slipped and fell on the way. The man there, possibly the owner, just smirked instead of showing concern, which left us with a very poor impression. If this is how guests are usually treated, it feels like disdain rather than hospitality. After reading other reviews about similar experiences, I’m starting to think those comments may be right.

The finca was lovely, the cacao was delicious, and the hike there was nice. I just didn't enjoy the coffee/cacao tour, which is why I gave three stars. English was the only option offered when I arrived, which was fine since I'm fluent in English and Spanish. But I found the guide arrogant and didn't like his explanations. I like guides who bring some passion to a tour, and he didn't. He spent too much time on his products and activities in town when I wanted to hear more about the finca itself. Such a shame, because it's a nice place.
