Union Plaza

The staff who served breakfast and the cleaning ladies were nice, but my stay was frightening and exhausting. A construction project was underway on my floor, and nobody had mentioned it. The hotel also has no gym or pool, and the rooms are tiny. For three of my four nights, I was woken around 3 a.m. by a group of adults from a “softball team” coming back and screaming. I felt shaken, agitated, and anxious. The second night they also played loud music. I first assumed staff hadn’t noticed, despite cameras on every floor. On the third night I went out wrapped in a towel, scared, and asked reception what was happening. They said they had spoken to the group, but the yelling kept happening, and apologized after seeing me come out frightened. They said they would tell the manager. I arrived with four suitcases and a dog, and nobody helped me bring my luggage through the hotel door. I let that go at first. The next morning I asked the manager for a refund because I needed to pay for another hotel and didn’t want to stay in what felt like a nightmare. She said she hadn’t been told about the disturbance and couldn’t do anything since she didn’t know. She offered me free lunch, but I needed somewhere I could feel safe, comfortable, and relaxed, especially while going through medical treatment. There’s a short video attached that I made after being woken by the men. I was confused, and my phone’s camera flash wouldn’t turn off. I was afraid someone would see me recording and do something to me. I was a woman alone in a hotel room, woken by loud, drunk men, and that was all I managed to record.

There are lots of restaurants close by, so the location worked out really well.

Breakfast was poor, and the rooms are tiny and bare. There wasn’t an iron or ironing board, a towel to step onto after a shower, or even a clock.

The price is reasonable, the service is good, and the location is the best part.
