Blue Lizard House

We were well looked after, and really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were comfortable and spotless, and breakfast was perfect. After a hot day touring the island, the pool was wonderful. You can rent a scooter or a MULE right there, they have them on site. It’s also a great place to watch sunsets.

The location is a little far from the busy center, but that turned out to be an advantage. They rent an excellent UTV, so getting around the island is easy. Blue Lizard House is an extraordinary hidden gem. The blue houses and garden are beautiful and authentic, and the owners built everything themselves and did an amazing job. The hosts are the best you could imagine, incredibly friendly and ready to help with whatever you need.

Liz and Luis live on the property, and they’re some of the nicest people you could meet. They were so conscientious and generous, going out of their way to make guests feel welcome and cared for. I felt like part of the family during my two weeks there. Liz may make the best breakfast on the island. I miss the fresh eggs from their chickens, the arepas, and coffee. Blue Lizard is a beautiful bed and breakfast, a lovely retreat with warm hospitality. The property has a charming look that fits its surroundings, and the ocean and sunset views are breathtaking. I loved sitting by the pool with coffee in the morning or a cold drink in the evening. The rooms are modern, spotless, and thoughtfully decorated, with a cozy, welcoming feel. It’s a great place for a relaxing getaway, and I can’t wait to return. Thanks, Liz and Luis!

The breakfast starts at 7:30, with eggs, arepas, fruit, coffee, and juices to choose from. Let them know about any dietary restrictions and they’ll adjust. We followed Liz and Luis’s restaurant suggestions, and Capi Beach was our favorite because it also has a nice beach. Most restaurants in town are open only for lunch. Since we were there in low season during the week, some delivery options weren’t available for dinner, so I’d get takeaway at lunchtime or go into town for dinner. The snorkeling, bird-watching tour in the botanical garden and mangrove forest, and the taxi company they recommended were all fantastic. It was clear they’d found the best services for guests. We were surprised by how beautiful our time in San Andres was, and a lot of that came from staying here. Liz and Luis were warm and generous at every turn, enough to bring me to tears. I hope I get to see them again. They built this sanctuary together and even made the furniture themselves, then shared it with us. That feels precious. There’s just a small sign at the start of the little unpaved road, then you enter an unassuming door and feel at home. Flowering trees line the path to the main building. There are only 5 rooms, and the whole place feels peaceful. Every now and then a car passes on the main road, but otherwise it’s quiet. Up front there’s a lovely pool with loungers and a couple of tables. Walk through the palms to a sun deck looking over the main road and sea, a perfect sunset spot. We stayed in the Agua room. It was very spacious and had internet, AC, a fan, a TV with Netflix, Alexa, a minibar, and an en suite bathroom. There’s no hot water, but the temperature never drops below 27°C. The inn is outside the city, and we were glad it was so serene. Renting one of their beach buggies or scooters was reasonably priced. We took a scooter and got around the island easily. We’d read all the great reviews, but still couldn’t have imagined how lovely the experience would be.
