Hotel Aceitunos

It’s a good-looking building, but there’s a damp smell. There are no power sockets in the room except one about two metres off the ground. Seriously?

The room was great, and the bed and bathroom were both really comfortable. There’s no TV, but who needs one in villa de Leyva? The coworking space was comfortable and handy when you need to work or have an unexpected meeting. The only thing is, the pool is cold. Hopefully they fix that. Breakfast is simple, the same kind of broth, eggs, fruit, cereal, coffee, and juice you might have at home, just ready for you. The service was good. They took a while to respond, but they did, and nobody was rude. Everyone was kind and helped me. I’d come back another time.

We’d booked a double room through WhatsApp using the link on the hotel’s Instagram page, but they gave us a room for four. The person we spoke to had told us the prices, and we confirmed the reservation. When we arrived, the young woman had a bad attitude and no empathy, and said we had to pay in cash to go ahead with the booking. We paid by card and accepted the transaction fee, but then she insisted the deposit had to be in cash. Tired, we had to go to the plaza to get the money because the hotel required it for the reservation. The next day, staff cleaned the pool with a regular house broom and sprayed air freshener on it. It was dirty, and although we’d planned to use it, we left right away. Breakfast wasn’t fresh either. The location is good, which makes it a shame, but based on the stay, service, and accommodations, I can’t recommend the hotel.

The staff seemed tense during our stay. A few cleaning staff members said they felt uncomfortable with the receptionist’s attitude and thought it might be affecting other guests’ arrivals. Our own experience at Hotel Los Aceitunos in Villa de Leyva was disappointing from the start. Reception was handled by Yesica Flórez, whose service was awful: she was unfriendly, unwilling to help, and made the atmosphere uncomfortable. It affected our whole stay and left a very bad impression. We won’t return or recommend the hotel. It’s a shame, since the place has a lot of potential, but the customer service let it down.
