After a warm day, the lovely pool was such a treat, especially since it's open 24 hours. On a rainy day we tried one of the many in-room massages, and staff and hosts were always around to answer questions. La Prometida is adults only and deserves a spot on everyone's must-stay list. The hotel is meticulously beautiful, right on Playa Negra in Puerto Viejo. From arrival, the staff and hosts were warm and friendly, with the sounds of nature all around. The art, atmosphere, and cleanliness are hard to beat. Tea or coffee was quietly brought to our room each morning, followed by included breakfast with fresh fruit, fresh juice, and several made-from-scratch options. There's also a bar serving beer, cocktails, wine, and light bites.

Andrea and Francisco are lovely hosts, and you can tell how much heart and effort they've put into the hotel. We wholeheartedly recommend it. The grounds and rooms were both wonderful, with incredible attention to detail. It was a genuinely relaxing retreat and the best hotel we experienced during our time in Costa Rica. We spent a lovely week at this gem. It's well maintained and has a really welcoming feel. The landscaping is beautiful, and it was a joy to come back after cycling to Manzanillo or hiking in Parque Nacional Cahuita. Jari and Selva went above and beyond with helpful tips and warm, friendly energy. The owners are very nice, too. You're off the beautiful Playa Negra rather than in the heart of Puerto Viejo, so be ready to walk into town or take an Uber. That location worked fine for us.

Francisco and Andy treated us like family. We loved the coffee brought to our room every morning and the fresh breakfast included in the rate. The location is just outside the busy downtown area and handy for the public beaches. The rooms, staff, hospitality, and location were all wonderful. We'll definitely be back!

Even though I spent only one night at La Prometida, it made a lasting impression after all these years away from Costa Rica. The spread-out rooms and campus-style layout give you a real sense of privacy and flow, surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful landscaping. There's clear care and polish throughout the property, and the team takes obvious pride in every part of the guest experience. Puerto Viejo is special, and La Prometida is now where I'll stay whenever I return.
