Mal Pais Surf Camp

The beach is only three minutes away, with stunning sunsets, and when the waves are too strong, the big pool is a great alternative. I loved this place enough to stay a few extra days after my friends left. Elise even gave me a double room for the same price as my bed in a four-bed shared room. It’s a peaceful hideout in St. Teresa, away from the crowds and dusty main street. The staff are friendly and helpful, and Elise makes you feel like family. Everything is cleaned daily. I really can’t recommend staying here enough.

The communal kitchen is well equipped, and there’s a trail right in front of the surf camp that leads to the beach. The camp is surrounded by nature, with howler and capuchin monkeys hanging out in the mango trees. A few iguanas relax by the pool too, and seem very comfortable around people. The staff were so helpful. Thanks again!

I’ve been coming back here whenever I’m in the area, for the past three years. Camping is comfortable, with electricity, a kitchen, bathrooms and security, and this year I tried a villa for the first time. The room was beautiful, and having the pool to relax in after a full beach day was a real plus. The restaurant food tastes great, the portions are just right, and the prices are fair. I’d recommend this place 100%.

I had a great time here. Most people come back and stay for weeks each year, so it felt like everyone knew one another. The staff are incredible and super helpful, there are lots of boards to choose from, and the rooms are great. I used the gym in the mornings and really enjoyed the pool. The food was okay, but there are other places nearby, so it wasn’t a big deal. I’d recommend it to backpackers, couples, or groups. The lack of AC was tough for me.
