My girlfriend and I spent four nights at La Paz del Caribe earlier this week, and the jungle setting made for a memorable stay. We regularly saw howler monkeys, sloths, and agoutis around the grounds. Wade and Laurie made lovely breakfasts each morning, and Wade was especially helpful with spot-on suggestions for our first visit to Puerto Viejo. They were warm and caring, helped ease our worries about spiders, and dealt with a scorpion and ants that got into the room. Our room was cleaned daily, though we did notice some dust, especially beside the bed. It was a small issue and didn't affect our stay much. The location was great for reaching beaches and restaurants. We especially recommend Spicy Coconut. Joe also took us on a fantastic day trip to Cahuita National Park and the BriBri village. We laughed a lot and had a brilliant time, definitely a 10/10 experience. We were happy here and enjoyed the “Pura Vida” atmosphere the hosts created. After we left, I posted a shorter version of this review on Booking.com and gave the stay a 9, which we meant as “superb” and overwhelmingly positive. Laurie then sent me a private WhatsApp message saying, “It sucks that you left us a 9.” That caught us off guard and felt unprofessional. We replied that we loved the stay, explained what we meant by a 9, thanked them for their hospitality, and said we hoped to return and had already recommended the property to my parents. Laurie answered, “Don’t bother referring us. But thanks anyways,” and then blocked my number. That was disappointing and left a bad mark on what had otherwise been a wonderful visit. Wade was consistently warm and helpful while we were there. The later exchange made us feel sad and disappointed, especially since we'd given them a 9.

We loved it so much that we added another night. It's a peaceful, beautiful place, and you can see the care in the rooms, garden, and breakfast. There are lots of good restaurants nearby. Thanks for such a lovely start to our Costa Rica trip!

The breakfast was delicious, with plenty of variety, and the cleaning staff did a great job. We spent seven nights in a bungalow, which was fresh, very clean, spacious for our things, and had a comfortable bed. The outdoor shower was amazing. We loved sitting on the front deck, taking in the jungle and wildlife. The beach and plenty of great restaurants are close by. The owners are wonderful, and La Paz Del Caribe is a special place. We'll always remember our week here. Thanks again!

I booked four nights, then extended as soon as I arrived. The staff were incredible, especially Patricia, who hosted us while the owners were away. She made everyone feel welcome and comfortable. On my first day she noticed I hadn't eaten the eggs at breakfast, then asked the next morning if I'd prefer something else. She swapped them out for me every day after that. The other guests were friendly, considerate, and quiet. It was one of the most peaceful hotels I've stayed in. You're basically sleeping in the jungle, with all the sounds that come with it. I'm a very light sleeper and was nervous on the first night, but earplugs helped. I had just one noisy night, when a toad beside our casita croaked until early morning. The king bed was really comfortable, and we saw so much wildlife, flora, and fauna right from the room. The owners have done a wonderful job. This is one of the most beautiful, special hotels I've ever visited, and I'd absolutely love to come back. If you're considering it, go for it. It was better than I'd imagined.

The sounds of rain and animals in the forest at night are an experience I still miss. We also loved unwinding by the pools, on our bungalow porch, and on the lovely second-floor yoga deck. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, with greenery that looks gorgeous and gives guests privacy. The bungalows have everything you need, and all the buildings and facilities were in impeccable condition. Breakfast was always satisfying and made us feel spoiled. When we had an early departure, they even prepared a takeaway breakfast that was just as complete and delicious. We could walk to great restaurants, Puert Viejo, and the beaches. Laurie and Wade were the best part of our stay. They made us feel at home, gave us fantastic recommendations, and we left feeling like we were leaving friends. This is paradise!
