Our time at Satta Lodge was packed with things to do, and it was lovely having such a beautiful place to return to each day. The rooms were cleaned impeccably every day, and the staff felt like friends. The other guests were interesting and kind, too. Bryan booked a chocolate-making trip and a visit with the Bri Bri indigenous peoples. I can almost call myself an expert on making chocolate from start to finish, just kidding, but I appreciate how it’s made so much more now. I don’t know how every bar isn’t worth $1,000! The Bri Bri people taught us how they make their palm tree roofs and lots of other things. They lead beautiful lives. Thanks again, Bryan, for arranging it. The bungalows are even more beautiful and unique than the pictures show. Our host Bryan and his wife Bobbie welcomed us like old friends. They cooked and played wonderfully alluring, calming music. The main outdoor lodge is inviting, with a large pool, hammock, and open-air seating where I sat working on a book. Bryan also pointed out the sloths on the property. There are howler monkeys and other adorable critters, too. My boyfriend doesn’t like to travel, but now he wants to come back soon and return to Satta Lodge. I won! You really feel like part of the family. The owners are wonderful.

Bryan’s local knowledge and customer service were a real highlight. He booked us an amazing trip to the Kekoldi waterfall and gave us great advice, so I’d recommend taking his suggestions. We saw monkeys, sloths, and countless birds around the beautiful property during our honeymoon week. Our villa was clean and well kept, like our own little hideaway. Breakfast was excellent, especially the rotating fruit juices. I’m still determined to figure out that banana cake recipe. The location worked perfectly for us, close enough to the road and beach to get around but set apart from the bustle. It’s about half a mile up a gravel road with some steep stretches. We walked it fine, though it might be hard for people with limited mobility and too steep to bike. Getting tuk tuks was never a problem.

The staff were all so friendly and helpful, and Bryan’s warm, genuine hospitality made us feel at home. The bungalows were spotless and beautifully kept, with mosquito nets everywhere so we could relax. We also loved the well-cared-for property and the fantastic breakfast each morning. Beto’s surfing lessons were excellent and so much fun. A real gem, and we’d happily recommend it.

The monkeys can get loud around 4 am, so light sleepers should bring earplugs. There’s no air conditioning, but the open building and fan kept our room cool enough. The lodge itself was lovely, with stylish decor, a comfortable bed, and a balcony over the jungle. Satta Lodge sits in a spectacular little patch of jungle, with wildlife all around. We enjoyed relaxing by the gorgeous pool after exploring, with plenty of seating and loungers. Reception and the poolside area are pleasant places to sit. They serve a light menu of snacks and cocktails until about 7:30 pm. Breakfast was very nice, with hot options like scrambled eggs and crêpes plus fruit, cereals, and more. Fantastic coffee, too. It’s a little way off the main road, but great restaurants and bars are about a 10-15-minute walk away, or a short drive. We had an amazing stay, with fantastic rooms, beautiful surroundings, and excellent service. I’d highly recommend it if you want a luxurious stay around Puerto Viejo.

We were a little unsure about the open-air rooms at first, but after our first night we enjoyed hearing nature around our Casita. The service was outstanding and breakfast was delicious. We had a great four-night stay in a quiet location about five minutes from the main road, with lots of good food options 10-15 minutes away.
