The staff made sure I was well looked after every day. The meals were delicious, with plenty of variety, and everyone was friendly. I had a wonderful stay at Las Cumbres and would recommend it to anyone coming for surgery or dental work.

Las Cumbres is peaceful and comforting, with lovely views across the valley and mountains. I met other guests there, and we had a great time talking about our procedures and sharing experiences. The care is thoughtful, with everything you need from the nurses, kitchen staff, drivers, cleaners, and Elke, the owner. Easily the best place I’ve found for surgical recovery in San Jose. I wish regular hotels were half as good.

A quiet, private retreat with gorgeous views and a humble property that has an authentic Costa Rican feel. Three meals a day are included, and they take dietary preferences and allergies into account. Xinia and her staff can handle almost any need, and a nurse is available. A lovely, simple place to recover after cosmetic or dental procedures.

I stayed two weeks after having two procedures, partly because I have known issues with general anesthesia. Plenty of people stay one week, but that extra time helped me recover, and having everything taken care of meant no stress before the flight home. Flying is hard on the body. After massive weight loss, I’ll need more reconstructive work, and I’d recommend Costa Rica to anyone considering cosmetic procedures. The surgeries plus a little recovery vacation cost about what surgery alone would have in the U.S. I just wish I’d arrived a few days sooner to see some sights. The most important part was the post-op care. Thanks to Annjuly, the nurse on staff, who stays overnight after you’re discharged from hospital, or downstairs in case you need something. Bathing can be hard, and she helped so kindly that I soon stopped feeling embarrassed. She also helped with medication and heparin shots. The owner knows first aid too, and stepped in when Annjuly was busy with some bandage and drain issues I had. They clean and disinfect the room every morning, and while the building is older, it’s clean. They can arrange doctor appointments, and you usually take an Uber there. Most Costa Ricans know enough English, and everyone on staff at Las Cumbress speaks it fluently. I hardly know Spanish, but that wasn’t a problem. My room was adequate for the affordable price, and three tasty meals a day were included, so I didn’t have to worry about much. The owner picked me up at the airport. I had a lovely mountain view, and the staff helped connect my Roku so I could binge Netflix while recovering. Air conditioning costs extra, but Escazu has mild weather, around the 60s at night and reaching the high 70s during the day. I was comfortable with the window open. The fruit was the freshest I’ve ever tasted, nothing like fruit in the U.S. Breakfast was an open buffet, with lunch and dinner made by the in-house chef. From the patio and pool overlooking downtown San Jose, I liked sipping hot tea and dipping my feet in the pool as storms rolled over the city and mountains. It really eased the stress. For context, my operations were done by Dr. Victor Urzola at Cima Hospital in San Jose. He’s a wonderful surgeon, and the facility is state of the art, better than many places in the States. Costa Ricans are so kind and caring, and love making you feel at home.

The staff and location were excellent, and the place exceeded my expectations. The prices are reasonable, and you can see the effort they put into making your stay a good one. I’d definitely recommend it.
