Hotel Puerta del Sol - San Jose Airport

Traveling with an aging parent, I look for places that are safe, clean, and accessible, and this one exceeded what I expected. The owner was friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. A good budget option near the airport if accessibility matters.

Just what we needed for a good price: a clean place to sleep, hot water, a pool, and a little breakfast included. Our flight was delayed, but the very nice hostess let us in after midnight, so email her! She also let us hang around late when the car wasn’t ready in time.

We had a group of four beds, two fulls and two twins, plus a couch someone could sleep on. It wasn’t amazingly comfortable, but after two weeks on what was basically a wooden slab with a bit of foam, it was very welcome. For the price, it’s a good choice for a large group. It’s a convenient stop before a flight from San Jose, about 15 minutes from the airport with no traffic. An Uber there at night was around $7. The bathroom is cramped, though that didn’t bother us. There’s a pool and breakfast too, but I didn’t get to try either during my stop.

The constant noise kept us all awake, and when I asked for the Wi-Fi password, the owner told me to figure it out. She’s an elderly woman who was very unwelcoming, accused me of smoking, and said I was lying. I cut my stay short and moved down the road to Country Inn, where the service was incredible. I’d highly recommend it. Other guests in a nearby room also left early because they felt unwelcome. She later emailed my mother nasty, horrible things after she originally complained. The hosting was completely unprofessional, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here to anyone. No wonder the rooms were all empty.
