Hostel Dorothy

We had a private room with four beds and could use the kitchen to cook. Having several supermarkets nearby was handy, and the internet connection was good. The staff were friendly and helped us figure out activities and connections to other cities, even though they didn’t speak English. We always found a way to communicate. There was no warm water, but at this budget it didn’t bother us. The fan was a little loud, though it moved the air well enough at night. Prices were good for somewhere five minutes from the center. Pura vida!

We stayed for two nights. The location is convenient, close to the center but in a quiet area, and the staff are genuinely kind and enthusiastic. Coffee was ready when we woke up, and the basic kitchen is available whenever you need it. The room was okay and clean enough, though the sheets had some stains and the furniture looks like it hasn’t been updated in a while. The shower had strong pressure and plenty of hot water. From the top floor rooms on that side, you can see the volcano, and there’s also a large open-air shared space with a view. Wifi was reliable and strong. It’s an honest place for the price.

Everything is simple, but it all works. The bed was clean, the shower was good, and the wifi actually worked. It’s a great budget stay, about a five-minute walk from the main street and far enough from the noise.

After two weeks in Costa and Nicaragua at budget places, this one really stood out for the value. It’s basic, but a gem for the money.
