A great place to unwind, with a nice pool and very friendly people. The Dutch/Curaçao owners can arrange an airport transfer and, if you want, reserve a rental car to be delivered to the hotel. You can take drinks from the fridge and just write down what you’ve had; they can also order food for you. There’s a beautiful Botanical Garden within walking distance that we’d recommend for lunch. Perfect place to begin a Costa Rica trip.

We stayed at Dushi Vida Country Inn on our first night in Costa Rica this time, after a very late, full flight into San Jose just after Christmas 2020. We’re Americans, and getting there in our rental car was easy. The roads were about what you’d expect here. I only saw one other party at the B & B. It felt homey and welcoming, from reception and the rooms to breakfast and the pool area. The property is very secure, with a high fence and gated access. Our room and linens were clean, and there was plenty of hot shower water. I even hand-washed some baby clothes in the sink. They provided hand soap, towels, blankets, fans, a TV, and a large mini fridge. No a/c, but it cooled down enough overnight. Breakfast was traditional Costa Rican B & B food: beans, rice, fresh eggs, orange juice, and fresh fruit bowls made to order, all served with a friendly smile. Coffee and tea were available too. Like many small places we’ve found around the country, the food and kitchen were very friendly to a gluten-free diet, with lots of single ingredients and few premade or packaged foods with additives. After breakfast we cooled off in the pool and headed to our destination. It was a pleasant stay, and I’d return and recommend it to family or friends. We just didn’t stay long enough! The pool was really nice and about as close and easy to reach from our room as it could be.

We stayed here twice, partly because it’s maybe a 15-minute drive from the airport. The beds were good, and there’s a pool with sun loungers and a place to change. Breakfast is served, and they can arrange a barbecue. Keep in mind there are only two places to eat and one supermarket nearby.

The owner pointed us to a quirky, charming little local place called Rancho El Corral for dinner, and the frijoles molidos and yuca frita were to die for. This homestay-style place was a lovely finish to our family vacation, with a peaceful feel, a beautiful pool, and lots of nature. The Botanical Orchid Garden is a short walk away. We’d definitely come back and recommend it.

They easily made room for my family of six, and the rates were reasonable. The people were very friendly, and a good breakfast came with the stay.
