Mamma Rosa Aparthotel

I loved waking up to the sound of howler monkeys. The staff were fantastic, especially Waldir and David, and housekeeping was impeccable. My apartment was spacious, bright, and super comfortable, with the beach only a few minutes’ walk away.

The location is the big plus, just a minute or two on foot from the beach for surfing, and the staff were friendly. The hotel breakfast was decent, and the AC and fridge worked. But the rooms felt very dated for the price, so I don’t think it’s great value. When we arrived, the beds were wet because the sheets had been washed but not dried properly. The windows were broken and wouldn’t close, and the beds creaked whenever you moved, making sleep difficult. I think you could find somewhere much nicer for the same money. We booked at the last minute, so this was what we ended up with.

I've been to Mamma three times now, and I keep looking forward to the friendly, welcoming place. Kenneth, the manager, sets a helpful tone and works with the rest of the staff to make sure everyone's needs are met. The rooms are simple and clean, and it's close to the beach at a reasonable price. The morning “free” meal is a nice way to start the day and meet people. I’m already looking forward to coming back.

The staff at Mamma Rosa were welcoming and easy to talk to, and breakfast was okay. I also appreciated the working mini fridge in the room. The location is handy for the best surf spots in Playa Guiones and several good restaurants, all walkable, though I’d bring a flashlight for evening walks or dinner. The room is why I’m giving three stars. After a day, the bathroom developed a pretty bad smell, which I think may be from the water quality. The shower had no door, so some water could get into the room if you weren’t careful. Our mattress had a dent, and even at full power the AC barely kept the room cool, despite the fans being on. We weren’t told the maid only came until a certain time, so the room stayed dirty until the next morning, when we were leaving, and sand and dirt kept getting tracked in. Keep your things locked up too. It seemed like pretty much anyone could come and go from the facilities. Nothing happened while we were there, but you never know.
