We felt at home here and left feeling like we'd made some lovely friends. La Barba Hostel is a special little find, built and run by Maria and Jeremy and their sweet son Noe. It's a rustic stay, so don't expect AC or standard hotel rooms. Instead, there's a beautiful bamboo room with a comfy bed and mosquito net, plus a shower under the stars, a great outdoor kitchen, and a laid-back space to hang out. Everything was VERY clean, and the pool area is beautiful. You'll need a car to get around, though Maria and Jeremy kindly drove us to and from the beach when we needed a ride. Honestly, the hostel is so lovely you could spend the whole day there. Maria also teaches yoga, and you can join her classes. We'll be back for sure.

I really enjoyed the açaí smoothie at breakfast, and all the food was great. Maria and Jeremie are wonderful, passionate hosts, and their place makes you feel like part of the family as soon as you arrive. It's the best hostel I've stayed in so far, calm and relaxed in the middle of nature. For surfers, I highly recommend booking a trip to Witch Rock and the beaches near Playa Negra. Their yoga is the real thing, and they are the best surf guides you can find in Cost Rica. I had an amazing time.

Maria and Jeremie are warm, helpful hosts, and their sweet son Noe is lovely too. They speak English, Spanish, and French, which comes in handy. This rustic little getaway in the Playa Negra area is a gem if you want to experience Costa Rica's nature. You can shower outdoors, take a yoga class with Maria, swim in the pool, book a massage, or stroll down to the beautiful beach.

The shared kitchen, pool, and lounge area made it easy to relax, and dinner at the lodge was one of the best meals we've had. The family who created this place are wonderful hosts. Their beautiful, handcrafted accommodation is tucked into a really peaceful spot, about a 10-minute drive from Playa Negra, one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches. Thanks for having us, we'd love to come back!

I only meant to stay one night while traveling in Costa Rica, but I had such a good time that I extended it to four. Jeremy and Maria have made a magical place in Playa Negra, and the quaint, rustic lodging quickly felt like home. I came for a surf trip, then our lovely hosts helped me discover there are so many other things to do and experience at Barba Negra Surf Lodge. The meals were all phenomenal, and the rooms were very clean. The best part was spending time with Jeremy and Maria. They're genuinely kind people who make everyone around them feel welcome.
