Hotel Costa Pacífica

Avoid this place. They shut the entrance gate at 9 PM without telling us. We returned from Jaco at midnight to find it locked. I called reception, sent messages on WhatsApp and Expedia, and honked for ten minutes. Nothing. Exhausted, I drove to a nearby hotel to look for a room, but it was full. Back at the gate, we slept in the car until someone finally came out early in the morning to open it. The grounds were run down, and although they claimed no king rooms were available, there was hardly anyone staying there. We saw one other car and a small tourist bus in the parking lot. The free breakfast was a joke, so on day two we went to a neighborhood soda instead. They charged 3mil colones, roughly $6, for a late afternoon coffee. It’s pet friendly, and I don’t have a pet or hate dogs. But when ten dogs gather in the dining area and one starts barking, you know the rest will join in. It sounded like a pack of howling coyotes.

The hotel is beautiful, but it needs maintenance. Some tiles were cracked or missing, and I almost fell. The garden is lovely and full of birds, though it needs work too.

This is a quiet beach oasis, a good place to relax. The beach is about a five-minute walk away and very peaceful. You can’t really swim there, but it’s great for surfing. The hotel service and restaurant are excellent, and the comfortable rooms have private outdoor space.

I can’t comment on the room since my friend stayed there, but we met at the restaurant for meals almost every day. The food and hospitality were very good. Juan and Gerald made us feel welcome each time with a warm greeting and a friendly conversation. The hotel is beautifully located close to the beach, away from the noise.
