I wouldn't go back, even if I were paid. The website photos don't match what you get: the place is old and doesn't seem to have been renovated or updated since it opened. I found a bed bug, and the bed and sheets were extremely old. The toilets were very worn, and the air conditioning wasn't cold enough. It was listed as fully equipped, but the refrigerator was the only thing that worked; the basic two-burner electric stove didn't work. The pool didn't look clean, and the internet and bar were no good either.

The beach is beautiful, but Sol y Luna was a horrible experience for my family and me, and I wouldn't recommend it to families. We stayed five days. When I booked, I specifically told the owner there would be two adults and a baby, but he still tried to charge us $20 extra per night for an old, dirty mattress for our baby, who doesn't sleep with us. We had a bad argument when all we wanted was to enjoy our vacation. In the end, we had to buy our own mattress so our baby could sleep on the floor, since the bed was in poor condition and too high for her. The bed mattress was old and smelled bad. The room was only partly cleaned, and none of the cookware that was supposed to be available worked, so we had to buy our own things and spend more to make our stay comfortable. From the welcome to the end, it was a very bad experience.

The service was wonderful, but the maintenance man made me uncomfortable. He always seemed to be lurking around, and he followed me into the woods. The aging thatched roof let in a lot of dust, and it was SUPER HOT because the A/C couldn't cool the structure properly.

The area is developing, with both newer and older good restaurants nearby, and the beach is walkable. The lodge has a nice rustic feel, with separate bungalows that have all recently been refurbished.

A lovely place surrounded by nature. Just relax!
