The receptionist was professional and attentive, and really went out of his way to make us comfortable. The room was another story. The cabins feel very old and undergraded, and it was cold inside. The blankets weren't thick enough, and the bed squeaked. I need a quiet night to sleep, so this wasn't a good fit. Trucks, motorcycles, and local street dogs fighting made noise throughout the night. I definitely don't recommend staying here.
We paid far too much for a one-night stay. We hadn't booked ahead, but there was no hot water, so we couldn't shower. In an urban location, I'd expect that basic service, and they should make it clear before renting the room. Not recommended.
It's a peaceful place, though cold. The owners really need to make sure the accommodation is fully clean before guests use it. We had a very bad experience with something we found in our room.
The newest "chalet" suited our family of three really well. It's simple, clean, and rustic, with a comfy bed and a tiny kitchen for breakfast and late-night tea. The new wood smell is lovely, and it felt like a great budget option. The owner was kind. I'm not sure what the other options are like, but I recommend this one.
We stayed in the Arenal house, and it was cozy, with lots of rooms and very well equipped. The restaurant was one of my favorite things, and the customer service was amazing. Chalets Los Volcanes feels magical, with the beautiful landscape around Fraijanes, Alajuela. Go with friends, family, or your partner for a lovely time.
