Cabinas Carolina & Restaurante

The restaurant was easily the best in town, ridiculously good. Vegetarians and vegans are especially well catered for, since the chef will make something custom. The hotel with the same name has a different owner, though Google seems to link their reviews, and the hotel appears to have very poor ones.

The balcony was nice to sit on, and reception were friendly. Inside, the room was fairly clean and the bathroom just okay. There was no hot water and the shower head was missing. A/C, TV and comfortable beds were a plus, but at night the place began smelling like a sewage treatment plant, which was really disgusting. Decent enough value for the price.

The staff were really helpful and easygoing, and the A/C was cold. We missed breakfast twice, but the owner kindly let us have a basic dinner instead, which we appreciated. The room had quite a few little problems, like water that wouldn't heat in the shower and a sink that didn't work properly. It was manageable, and this is the Osa, so some flexibility is needed. It's one of the cheaper places around, and you can tell.

Really, really bad. We ordered the menu of the day, but none of it seemed to have been cooked there. The servings were ridiculously small, and everything tasted like reheated frozen food, from the fries and bland precooked fish to the “brownie.” I was still hungry afterward. They say you can pay by card, but apparently you can't. I wondered if taking cash lets them avoid paying taxes. The staff seemed dishonest.
