Danta Corcovado Lodge

The food was outstanding. We tried nearly everything and never regretted it. The main building has a roomy dining and lounge area with hammocks, and the open kitchen lets you watch meals being prepared. Our bungalow opened right onto the rainforest, with mosquito nets instead of windows, which made sleeping there feel special. The bathroom was amazing, in a separate space outside the sleeping room, with a huge shower and a roof. Insects may join you while you're showering or using the toilet, but I liked it. There's also a spacious porch and hammock. Wildlife sightings can include monkeys, butterflies, caimans, ants, snakes including fer-de-lance, scarlett macaws, and many other birds. The lodge has a bird watching tower and hiking trails; a little trail maintenance would make exploring easier. This was an outstanding stay, with hotel amenities right in the wilderness. We’ll definitely come back to Danta Corcovado Lodge. Thanks for having us!

The food was the best we had in Costa Rica. Two ladies cooked great meals in a spotless open kitchen, from breakfast through dinner, and the bar had amazing smoothies. The staff were friendly and efficient. Our rooms were basic, full of character, and very spacious. The Canopy Tower has stunning views, and the trails around the property are clearly signed. We felt safe walking back at night. A peaceful, authentic jungle stay that we’ll remember and highly recommend.

The rainforest stayed damp, so our things never fully dried, though laundry cost less than at other hotels where we stayed. I was nervous about bugs, especially in the outdoor bathroom, but it was totally fine. The staff were so welcoming and helpful, and the restaurant area was beautiful. We enjoyed every meal, including a packed breakfast they made for our early departure to the national park tour. We saw loads of wildlife, maybe even more than inside the national park, along the well-marked trails. Gumboots are available for guests, and hotel dog Maya joined us on a couple of walks.

The bird observation tower is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and we saw two sloths during our stay. The Osa Peninsula forest is a perfect setting if you want to experience living in it. The restaurant was first class, with three-course dinners for $24, and the staff were efficient and well trained. Our standard double room was like a cement cave, hot and humid even with the fans, since it had no AC. The bed creaked so badly that sleeping well was hard. Otherwise, we enjoyed the experience.
