Hotel Mar y Mar

It’s a family-run place, not a big hotel, and they do a great job keeping the beach clean. We had great meals, made good friends there, and felt like family during our stay. A relative was within walking distance, which was handy. They’re kind and generous, and we loved being there. Can’t wait to come back!

It’s a nice small hotel, and the restaurant next door served great food. The restaurant staff were courteous and friendly. The admin, manager, or owner came across as borderline rude, though. I understand he was trying to keep things orderly and peaceful, but he could be more polite and sociable. The other staff were very nice and could teach him a thing or two.

The host and staff were genuinely helpful, and the beach is just across the street. But after one night, I felt the place had been misrepresented. It isn’t a 3-star hotel by any stretch, and it didn’t match what Booking.com or Google led me to expect. Our room was in rough shape, with rusty faucets and AC that barely worked. There was no hot water, and parking was cramped and difficult. For the price, these problems aren’t reflected in the listing, and you can find much better places for the same money. It might work if you just need a hostel-style spot to crash, but at this price I would not recommend it.

Our local guide recommended this place for the night while we were on a sailing trip, and we booked through him. It’s not very large, but the spaces are surprisingly welcoming. You can tell they’ve taken a lot of pride in putting the place together. Breakfast was included and made for an excellent start to the morning.
