My family and I first visited Costa Rica in May 2026 and spent a week at Tulemar. I can't say enough good things about the place. The house, 11X, had a gorgeous view through big windows, with rainforest behind us, hills and mountains in the distance, and the ocean right in the backyard. The rooms were well equipped and well cared for. One night the power went out around 9:20 p.m. for about half an hour, which I'd read was common in the area. The resort was well run, with friendly people at the cafe, main entrance, housekeeping, and driving the vans. Everything was easy to get to, and the vans were a big help getting the kids up the hill to the main entrance. Our agent Fabio was incredible from the start through the last handshake on the way to the airport. He was attentive, brought little treats for the kids, and arranged all the attractions and events we went to. I'm so grateful for everything he did for our family. The cafe pool and jungle pools were clean and great for kids. The jungle pool was especially fun, with monkeys around in the afternoon, a waterfall you can sit under, and an extra step where kids can splash or swim. We even made friends with the iguana that hung around the pool for a few days. Ha. Getting to local restaurants was easy, by transport or on foot, and walking wasn't too bad with cars passing. Cafe food prices were lower than we expected, and the convenience store at the entrance was handy. Just remember imported items cost quite a bit more.

Rainforest wildlife, beautiful views, and privacy, with amenities and places to visit just outside the resort. Our stay at Tulemar exceeded expectations, and we're already missing it and would love to return. The concierge Jorge was a great help before, during, and after the trip, answering questions, booking excursions, and coordinating requests. It was easy to arrange housekeeping through the concierge around our beach trips and excursions. The shuttle drivers were lovely and had good suggestions when we wanted to explore. There are lots of delicious sodas around town worth checking out. The pools and beach were so beautiful and relaxing that we wanted to swim every day. The resort is atop a steep, single-lane hill, so keep that in mind if driving, though getting around MA and Quepos was not difficult.

The private beach made it so easy to swim in the ocean every day, and we loved staying at a resort that had one. There were lots of animals on the property too, though you'll definitely want to take the full park tour. The people were magical, friendly, joyful, and the best. Our private concierge Jorge was amazing. We loved this place and highly recommend it!

The concierge side didn't meet the level we expected for Tulemar's reputation and the cost of our stay. Communication and coordination often felt reactive. We gave our flight details into Quepos but weren't offered a transfer, so arranged one ourselves. At first, we were given a key for the wrong unit. For one excursion, the cash amount was wrong, and we only found out the pickup time had changed because we followed up after no pickup information arrived. Our request for housekeeping every second day wasn't consistently coordinated. The day before departure, we had to go to reception ourselves for checkout and travel details. None of these problems ruined the trip individually, but together they added stress to an otherwise beautiful vacation. Our airport transfer was also delayed on departure, though Tulemar later covered its cost, which we appreciated. The property itself is truly beautiful, with special wildlife, grounds, beach access, and setting. We had many wonderful moments and loved our 12-night stay. Several staff were excellent and deserve recognition: Vanessa in housekeeping, David at the beach, Natalie at Tule Café, and the shuttle drivers. Their warmth and professionalism genuinely made our experience better, and we loved seeing them. Tulemar is a special place with many excellent staff, though we found its concierge and operations inconsistent.

Wildlife was everywhere in the lush forest around the property, including sloths, monkeys, toucans, and parrots. There’s a beach at the bottom, two restaurants on site, and shuttles to get around the resort with a phone call. The location is fantastic, and restaurants and shops nearby are walkable, though there isn’t much of a sidewalk, so watch your step. A beautiful place to stay.
