Casa Lima Bed & Breakfast

The staff were nice, and the AC worked well, but the rooms were filthy. There were bugs in the sheets when we arrived, and my room had ants while my friends' room had spiders and webs everywhere. I don't think the sheets were changed between guests. The water was always cold, and breakfast was just fruit and rolls. This was one of my worst stays. I'd spend a little more for somewhere that actually cleans its rooms.

When I asked the owner for a refund, he said he'd give one if I didn't leave a review. I agreed and left, but Expedia emailed the next morning to say he was refusing to refund us. There were huge flying cockroaches in our room, including one that landed on my partner's head, and the whole place was filthy. The stained, dirty sheets were bad enough on their own. This was one of the worst hotels I've stayed in. It also looked nothing like the photos. Don't stay here, save your time and money.

The staff were friendly, but I've stayed in cheap hotels before and never had one this bad. We arrived an hour late after our flight was delayed, and they had given away our rooms. We had booked two, one for me and one for my friend and her daughter, but got one room with two beds instead. The safe and AC didn't work, and there was a huge hole in the shower ceiling. The next morning's “complimentary” breakfast was coffee, juice, rolls, and fruit. Everything else cost extra. When we asked about a partial refund, the manager said all rooms cost the same. We checked online and found that wasn't true. After we'd put up the “please clean” sign for two days without service, the manager said we had to tell them if we wanted the room cleaned. One day we returned to find the TV on and toilet seat up, so it was obvious someone had been in our room. I don't know how they got 4.5 stars.

Nelson went out of his way to fix my mobility scooter while we were having breakfast. The airline had damaged it on the way to Costa Rica, and my wife and I couldn't find tools ourselves. Nelson got it running again and secured things so the problem wouldn't happen again. It wasn't his responsibility, but he helped us in a way that saved our trip. The breakfast was wonderful too, especially the banana pancakes, and the lobby is amazing. Case Lima B&B is a peaceful little gem in San Jose, with tropical plants and waterfall sounds around the breakfast area. Nelson is a phenomenal host. I've traveled for over 20 years across 5 continents and more than 10 countries, with repeat visits to many, and this place exceeded all my expectations. I can see the business thriving and doing even better. We'll stay again, and even if they're full, we'd come by to see Nelson, enjoy the lobby, and have breakfast. I'd recommend it 10 out of 10.
