Hostel Shakti

We waited 30 minutes at the gate until another guest heard us and called the receptionist. The staff were rude and ungrateful, and we didn't feel welcome at all. We'd heard there were a lot of robberies in the area, which didn't feel safe. I gave feedback to the receptionist, but she got very defensive. I wouldn't stay here even if I got paid.

For my first hostel stay, this went beyond what I expected. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the woman running the place was helpful and accommodating. It was quiet, and the kitchen facilities were great, with free coffee from the machine and tea, plus a hob, stove, and microwave for cooking. There's also a nice balcony to relax on. A few restaurants and Chinatown are within walking distance, so the location is convenient. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a cheap and cheerful stay in San Jose.

A clean, nice place in a good location, though it's a little way from the center.

The host was incredibly warm and caring, and I'd stay here again. My private-bathroom room had a double bed and a single bed. Everything was very clean, and it even had a fan. The hostel was nicely decorated, with an open kitchen, TV, and more. Breakfast is included, and lunch and dinner are available. PS, it's near the train, but I still slept well through the night.
