We stayed for three days with our children in the four-person cabin, which had a small kitchen and terrace. It was rustic, clean, and comfortable, and we slept well even with the evening wind howling. From the property there are lovely views over the Pacific, with magical morning rainbows and pink sunsets. The large grounds were great for the children to roam and play, even our teenager, and we regularly spotted agoutis and coatis. Sofia was very helpful with booking nearby restaurants and sharing local insights. Her delightful parents made a great breakfast. This lovely family-run inn made our time in Monteverde truly memorable.

The younger staff were kind and easy to communicate with. They helped us find a taxi a couple of times since our Spanish was no bueno. The older staff made delicious breakfasts each morning, with fresh fruit and different dishes like omelets, caramelized French toast, homemade marmalade, fried plantains, and a little rice and beans. We’re so grateful we stayed here. We spent four nights here on our August honeymoon, in a panoramic room with a sea view. It was spacious, clean, and had the beautiful view we expected. We saw a few insects, which I think comes with staying in a cabin-style place. There’s no air conditioning, but we had a fan and space heater available and didn’t feel the need to use them. The shower was quite nice. If you don’t have a rental car, you’ll definitely want taxis. We walked into town once and found it a bit difficult because the road to the hotel is steep. The property is peaceful and a little removed, and we saw several coatis and agoutis while we were there.

The family made us feel so welcome. Sofía speaks excellent English and was always available on WhatsApp to help with whatever we needed. Her parents made delicious breakfasts each morning. We wished we spoke more Spanish so we could chat with them, but even with the language barrier they were warm, friendly, and funny. And the view! The hotel sits high in the mountains, looking out over rolling peaks and drifting clouds. We were amazed by it every day and understood why “Cloud Forest” is such a fitting name for the region. A real hidden gem for a rustic stay with breathtaking views and a welcoming family touch.

The view, breakfast, and breakfast staff were all good, and it was okay for a two-night stay. But this felt like a 2.5-star budget hotel. The rooms are very rustic, drafty, and noisy. Wind and rain made it feel like sleeping in a crisp packet, and we could hear everything from the next room. The shower had hot water, but there was none at the bathroom sink. The sink plug also really needs replacing urgently.

The family who run the place were incredibly warm and kind. By the end, leaving felt like saying goodbye to friends, and I even gave them a hug on our last day. Someone greeted us when we arrived around midnight, then was back up at 6 a.m. to serve breakfast. Breakfast was included, delicious, and different every day, with fresh local fruit, juices, and homemade dishes. The views are incredible. From our porch we watched the sunrise over the valley, and one morning a rainbow stretched across it. The hotel is up a steep hill, like much of Monteverde, but the scenery made the climb worth it. Little capybara-like creatures wandered through the bushes nearby. We only learned after arriving that the hotel is family-owned and has been passed down through generations. You can feel that care in everything. It feels like home.
