The spare keys were just left hanging in the common area at night, with the door open and no staff around. Some doors also had trouble locking, which didn’t make me feel safe. The hostel itself was decent and clean, with small but comfy rooms, though ours was a bit noisy because the window wouldn’t close all the way. The warm shower took a moment to figure out, since it’s an electric one. Breakfast only ran from 7:30 to 8:30, which doesn’t suit every early activity. Self-service might work better, though the staff kindly offered us coffee and a banana beforehand.

I didn’t stay here, but I did try to book a tour through them, and the person arrived 30 minutes later than they’d said. The rooms are right by reception, and there are lots of odd rules posted on the walls about things like kitchen use. I guess it’s so they can clean, but it’s annoying. One bathroom door wouldn’t shut or lock. As a guy I could hold it closed with my foot, but I felt sorry for the women. I’ve helped run a couple of hostels, and this one didn’t seem great. Very average, though maybe fine for a budget traveler.

The room was comfortable and quiet, and it could have fit several more people. I had a great stay. They know the area well and were helpful.

The location is ideal, right in Santa Elena near an ATM, supermarket, and lots of restaurants. We were pleasantly surprised as soon as we arrived, since we’d expected less after reading some negative reviews. The staff were very friendly, carried our luggage, gave us a town map and useful tips, and booked activities for us. They were always ready to help. We couldn’t get the hot shower working at first despite the instructions, but staff fixed it quickly when we asked. The hostel was cold at night, as hostels in Monteverde can be, but we did get fleece blankets. There are two kitchens with the essentials, including a microwave, water cooker, and cups. Absolutely recommend staying here.
