MARAVIDA Boutique Hotel & Resort

The hotel is spotless and air-conditioned, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast, included in the price, had both buffet and à la carte choices. It's very close to the beach, with a lovely pool and beautiful views. Be aware that the hotel's well-known Friday night party has been running for over 20 years. It goes from 9 p.m. until nearly 3 a.m., and the fireworks sounded like they were right outside my door. At check-in, they ask you to sign a form confirming you know the party hours, so keep that in mind if you're staying on a Friday.

I used to stay here often back when it was the Best Western, and the local staff were still warm and friendly this time. But the new owners and managers came across as rude and snobby, with sly comments about us being from the States. Maybe they don't like Texans. We only learned the place had changed hands when we arrived for our November 2025 stay. The TVs didn't work, there was no furniture on the patio, and the pool bar was closed. It feels like the Costa Rican character is disappearing. I miss how it used to be and won't stay here again.

Being within walking distance of the beach was nice, but the rest of the stay was rough. Our room barely fit two people and our suitcases, so I had to slide mine under the bed. The bathroom was worn out: the sink tap sprayed water everywhere, the shower squealed the whole time, and there were bugs, though that's not too concerning in Costa Rica. We were warned at check-in about a Thursday party on our second night, but the techno music, screaming, and noise were so loud it felt like it was in our room. It kept us awake until it ended at 11 pm. At checkout I said it was hard to sleep, and they explained they were rebranding to offer more activities. I told them a 10 pm cutoff would have helped and they should say online that some nights are loud until 11. Had I known, I wouldn't have booked.

Kim and Josue are what make this hotel stand out for me. Kim is so kind, attentive, and funny, and she represents the organization that bought the hotel wonderfully. Josue is always helpful and a bright person to talk with. He has great nails, too! I've been staying here for a few years when I visit Costa Rica, and I love the place.
