Playa Grande Surf Camp

What made Playa Grande Surf Camp special for me was its hostel feel. The rooms and service are hotel-like, but outside your door you can meet travelers from all over who share your interests. I spent much of my time by the pool or in the kitchen swapping stories, and made some great friends. I'd strongly recommend it if you want to improve your surfing and meet other travelers or surfers. The beach is only about a 200-foot walk, with excellent surfing right by the camp. Walk a little farther along the beach and you'll find a range of conditions for different skill levels, whether you're new to surfing or have done it for years. The team at PGSC made me feel like part of the family and did a great job helping me and my group make the most of our time in Playa Grande. The rooms are gorgeous and the beds very comfortable. Rooms without A/C have an extremely powerful fan to keep things cool, and I didn't need the AC most nights.

The hammocks and courtyard pool are lovely, and there's a shared kitchen. The rooms are cute and comfortable, and everything feels welcoming. Dawn is so sweet and attentive, always ready to help and caring about everyone. It's an easy two-minute walk from the surfcamp to the beach, and the relaxed vibe makes it a great place to unwind and enjoy the ocean. If you want to learn to surf, Vidi and Yosimar are friendly, patient, and clearly love what they do. I can't wait to come back, keep improving my surfing, watch the sunsets, and spend more time by the ocean.

Dawn has helped us with all sorts of things during our stays, from transport and tours to groceries. She's phenomenal and a real asset to the camp. We've taken private lessons through PGSC twice while vacationing in Playa Grande, and they've always been excellent, with great equipment and wonderful instructors. We also rented boogie boards for our stay and were very happy with both the price and quality.

The surf instructors are friendly, patient, and know their stuff. They made learning to surf feel easy and safe, and you can rent boards right at the hostel. They also give helpful advice on choosing one. The beach is beautiful, and the sunsets are sure to stick with you. There's a warm, open feel among both guests and staff, so conversations and meeting people from different cultures come naturally. There are also plenty of quiet corners when you want some peace. The hostel itself is clean, cozy, and welcoming, right by the beach. Café Mar Azul is fantastic too, with delicious food and a really friendly team. The whole vibe is lovely, and it's definitely worth a visit.
