We had a terrible stay. A pipe burst a few hours after we arrived and flooded two rooms. Staff mopped up, but some of my clothes were ruined, and the water stayed off all night until someone could come fix it. I expected an apology and an offer to launder the clothes. Instead, staff mostly ignored us or were outright unfriendly. The sheets were stained and dirty, and we saw mold in several rooms. We woke each morning with sore throats and coughs that went away during the day. I suspect black mold was the cause. At night, scurrying and squeaking inside the walls woke me about half a dozen times. I can only guess there was a mice infestation. I've had a much better visit to Uvita before, at a hostel that cost less and was nicer. I don't recommend staying here.

Dinner here felt like a perfect Costa Rica evening, eating good fish, drinking an Imperial, and listening to rain. Tania, the owner, was fun to talk with and always happy to help, and Luigi the chef was great company and an excellent cook. He checked that everything was good and quickly handled any requests. Every dish I had was spot on, and the attached restaurant was fire each time I ate there. The rooms are nice and the pool is great. Inside, there's a gorgeous central pillar carved by a member of the Boruca. They also sell Boruca masks and balsa wood art for souvenirs. And I nearly forgot the homemade ice cream, which is out of this world. The mango was incredible. A guest from another nearby hotel came by on three different nights just to take some back to eat with his girlfriend. Do yourself a favor and stop in, you won't regret it.

We went back for seconds and thirds during our time in Uvita, and all three meals at the restaurant attached to Hotel Bahía Azul were delicious. The food was fresh, full of flavor, and expertly made, whether we stopped in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Tania, the owner, greeted us warmly and was kind throughout our visits. The boutique hotel's charming, relaxed atmosphere and attentive service made the restaurant feel like a hidden gem, away from the everyday bustle. We left full and happy, already planning another trip. The restaurant at Hotel Bahía Azul will be a highlight of our travels, and we can't wait to return.

Our meal at the restaurant wasn't acceptable. The mariscada, a seafood stew with mussels, lobster, and fish, was gritty with sand and needed better cleaning. The steak was frozen. The waitress was on her own in difficult conditions and did her best, apologizing for the food. It was a shame the chef couldn't face the mistakes. I hope things improve for them.

For a comfortable, reasonably priced stay, I found Hotel Bahia Azul a good choice. The rooms were spacious, the beds comfortable, and the bathroom clean. Although the hotel is next to the road, we heard very little traffic. The pool was clean and well maintained, good for swimming and exercise, and the grounds were kept up nicely. Breakfast is included, and the food service was good. Other meals cost extra but were reasonably priced. They also make homemade ice cream, which was really good. The staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. Most of the time, the owner served us. Would I stay here again? Yes, I will.
