Poas Volcano Lodge

We found plenty of comfortable spots in the public areas to settle in with a book. The building is amazing, and so are the gardens. Our views were mostly of the cloud forest rather than the volcano, which was fine. The food was outstanding, as were the staff. It was a real treat, especially after the holiday business.

We handed in the breakfast sheet for 7 a.m., but by 7:35 nothing had arrived. We were in a back corner room with our two kids, and even though a large group came in well after us, some of them were served first. We had to leave for our tour. I asked the boss for a refund for breakfast, but he didn't want to give one.

Before my stay, my reservation details, including my name, phone number, dates, and amount due, were leaked. Scammers used accurate hotel information to send booking and payment messages that looked genuine. The hotel acknowledged this serious security incident, but I haven't heard anything further or received any attempt at a resolution. The lack of action is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about the hotel's data protection. I'd advise future guests to be cautious and consider whether this is the right accommodation for them.

The rooms were impeccable, private, connected to the outdoors, and simply lovely. This wonderful hotel is on a working dairy farm, which is close to my heart, and it felt perfect in every way. I loved the tiny wood stoves in the different lobby rooms, watching birds and butterflies, and the game room. The food was amazing too. Simply amazing, and I look forward to another trip to Costa Rica to stay here. If I could give it more stars, I would!
