Club Karey

THIS IS THE WORST RESORT IN THE HISTORY OF RESORTS. The manager is a complete drunk. The food was a fly trap and was consistently undercooked. Staff were rude, and many simply ignored our questions. The beach was swamped with litter. Housekeeping didn't clean our rooms even once. There are no amenities at the resort, and the hours for all the programming were inconsistent. I can't urge you enough not to go to this hotel. For however much you're paying and the vacation time you're taking, this place is more of a headache than anything else.

You get almost what feels like a private beach, just steps from your room, and most of the staff are lovely. The cleaning lady did an excellent job. This is a cheap-y place in Cuba, so adjust your expectations, but it's great. Rooms vary a lot in quality, so if yours doesn't suit you, ask nicely to switch. The food is kind of crappy, as it is in other cheap Cuban hotels. Still, if you stick to fresh fish and don't fuss too much over the extras, it's fine. We ate fresh fish, sometimes other seafood, and vegetables every day, and it kind of forces you to eat healthy. It's full of generally older folks and isn't a party place. If you want to see and be seen, go elsewhere. But if you're happy with a smaller place that doesn't offer a whole lot to do beyond the beautiful Caribbean and beach, you can't go wrong.

The villas are set away from downtown, so the beach right outside is more private and beautiful. The location is tranquil, but still close enough to reach downtown by Coco ride or a good walk. We had a wonderful stay at Club Karey from Jan. 4th - Jan 11th, 2014. The accommodations are distinctive casas divided into oversized suites, with a sitting room, modern bar fridge, and bathtub. Staff were hospitable and helpful, doing their best to make things carefree and enjoyable. The buffet chefs were incredible, always grilling a special, from shrimp to roast pork and turkey. The pool snack-bar was a pleasant surprise too, with excellent fries and pizzas. Nightly entertainment was very good. We can't wait to come back!

Roaches outnumbered the staff, and there was no beer, food, or coffee. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else. This isn't a resort, just an old hotel that passed its "Best before Date" a long time ago. Anyone who says it's a good place to stay has smoked too much crack. By far the WORST place we've ever stayed !!
