Casa Das Ilhas

We absolutely loved our stay at Casa das Ilhas. Katelijne and her team were fantastic, and the place is a brilliant base for walking in the valley. Jij bent de beste! The hotel has a rustic, intimate feel, tucked away in the beautiful Paul valley. Getting there means a steep 15 minute climb uphill, though they can arrange for your bags to be carried up. It’s quite remote, so most guests eat dinner at the communal table, but you can opt out if you’d rather go somewhere else. Katelijne has lived in the area for 20 years and knows it inside out. She speaks English, Dutch, French, German, Portuguese and Kriolu fluently, and gives great walk suggestions to suit your level. She can also help arrange transport to the start or back from the end of a walk, lunch along the way, transfers to the hotel, and whatever else you need. The rooms are scattered through a terraced tropical garden, connected by cobbled paths. They’re simple but comfortable. There’s a tiny pool with a glorious view down the valley, and many rooms share that view too.

They were so friendly that they even gave us coffee for free. We’d started climbing into the mountains from the beach without having breakfast, since there was nowhere to get any. The terrace was nice and the view incredible!

Katelijne looked after everyone with individual attention, checking each evening about hiking plans and transport options. The dinners were tasty, and the location and views are epic. We had 5 amazing days at Casa das Ilhas and would definitely come back, and stay longer.

Santo Antao, especially Pauls valley, is amazing for trekking and nature lovers. Catherine and her team took great care of us and made us feel at home, helping organize our transfers. We loved every second of our stay. Thank you!
