Chez Sandro

Sandro and his wife are wonderful hosts, and their place has a lovely rooftop where you can relax and take in the views. The hotel serves a nice breakfast, and you can buy picnics to take along on hikes. For dinner, the restaurant in town has delicious traditional food. The setting is paradise: 600m up in a valley with walls reaching 1600m, with beautiful wild trails winding through crops like sugar cane, coffee, bananas, and more. You have to come experience this adventure!

The layout makes the building a bit of a labyrinth, but the room was thoughtfully arranged, and the shared-bathroom room, terrace, and breakfast area all have awesome views. Sandro was sick, yet still communicated well and was a helpful host. There’s no dinner at the guest house, but Ady (the previous manager of Chez Sandro) & Juju do a great job a few meters down the road. This was my first overnight stop while crossing Santo Antão, and I’d warmly recommend it for a stay of several nights too.

Not much to do in town apart from a couple of restaurants and corner stores, but you’re here to hike. You might also catch the guys playing soccer on the cement court inside the school yard. Chez Sandro is a clean, peaceful guest house in the heart of hiking country, run by a welcoming family. Frenchman Aandeo and his Cape Verdean wife keep the place tidy. The rooftop patio has beautiful valley views, the beds are clean, the showers are hot, and breakfast is hearty with a lovely view. Merci Sandro!!!

Sandro and his wife are friendly, kind, and very helpful. The location is great and breakfast is very good too. A lovely place to stay, and I’ll definitely come back. All the best to you!!! Ricardo
