Penzion Macocha

We were told by phone we’d be getting an apartment, but it was actually a fairly small room. The beds covered all the outlets, so I had to charge my phone in the tiny bathroom. It looked clean at first, until we put an empty suitcase on the wardrobe or under the bed. When we pulled it out, it was covered in a thick layer of old dust. We even spotted a cobweb. This is somewhere I’d visit once, and that would be the last time.

The location is about the only thing going for this place. Next time, we’d rather drive a few extra kilometers in the morning. In Olomouc, we had a 4* hotel with wellness for the same price, just 350 m from the historical center, and breakfast was excellent. Here, breakfast wasn’t included. You had to pay for it at another property about 300-500 m away. The advertised kitchenette was shared, and the water in the property wasn’t potable. Some rooms had no bathroom or sanitary facilities, which the owner hadn’t mentioned. We also suspected the bed linen wasn’t clean. The price included one small towel per person, something we only learned on site. The website offered cheap accommodation, but the owner wanted €92/night (!) for the room. He said the online prices were only indicative, and that he charged less for long stays and in the off-season. That price DEFINITELY didn’t match the “quality” of the accommodation. He wanted payment in cash, in euros, on site, and without a receipt. When we asked for one, he wanted another 10 euros. We can’t recommend this place at all.

The room itself was clean and simply but nicely furnished, and it was fine for a single night. But hotel guests couldn’t have dinner in the restaurant because there was a private banquet. We were told some pipes were being cleaned, so the hot water came out rusty. The receptionist said to turn it off, and we only partly managed that during the evening. By early morning there was no cold water, just hot. We were in a hot attic room, and I would’ve liked a drink when I woke up. The advertised strong wi-fi was no better than at any other hotel. If I come back to Blansko, I’d try the U Golema guesthouse. From what I could tell at the restaurant, they seem a bit more accommodating to guests.

The only real plus was the location. I’d stayed at this guesthouse before, but a lot has gone downhill since then. The room was tiny, musty, and smelled bad. There was no toilet or shower in the room, and we hadn’t been told the facilities were in the hallway. The water was undrinkable, brown from the well, and not suitable for showering either. For 75 euros a night, that’s a pretty big disappointment, even for an undemanding guest. A mini room with no bathroom and unusable water doesn’t match that price.
